63-year-old man arrested after breaking into Simei flat

SINGAPORE: A 63-year-old man was arrested for allegedly breaking into a flat in Simei, assaulting an occupant of the flat and attempting to rob her and her room mates, the Singapore Police Force said on Saturday (Aug 27).
A police report was made by the 29-year-old victim at 11.30am on Friday, after the suspect allegedly broke into her house at Block 101 Simei Street 1.
After conducting ground enquiries and with the aid of police cameras, officers established the identity of the suspect and arrested him less than five hours later at about 4.10pm.
The suspect will be charged in court on Monday with house trespass and attempted robbery with hurt, the police said. If convicted of house trespass, he could be jailed up to two years and fined. If convicted of attempted robbery with hurt, he faces between five and 20 years’ jail. He cannot be caned as he is above 50 years old.
